How to Copy the Link of an X (Twitter) Post (Phone and Desktop)
Part of the complete guide to downloading X/Twitter videos.
To copy the link of an X post, open the post, tap the Share icon and choose Copy link. That's the whole trick, and it's the step where most failed downloads go wrong. Here are the exact steps for each device, what a correct link looks like, and the mistakes to avoid.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the post that contains the video.
- Tap the Share icon under the post (an arrow pointing out of a box or up).
- Tap Copy link.
On Android
- Open the post with the video.
- Tap the Share icon under the post.
- Choose Copy link from the menu.
The labels can differ slightly between app versions and phones, but the Share icon and a Copy link option are always the route.
On a computer (PC or Mac)
Option 1: open the post, click the Share icon under it, and choose Copy link.
Option 2: click the post (or its timestamp) so it opens on its own page, then copy the address from your browser's address bar.
What a correct link looks like
https://x.com/username/status/1234567890
It has your target account's username, the word status, and a long number. Links that start with twitter.com in the same format also work, since that's X's older address. Extra bits at the end, like ?s=20, are just tracking and don't matter.
Mistakes that break downloads
- Copying a profile link. A link to someone's profile (
x.com/username) isn't a post. Open the post with the video first. - Copying from search or the timeline. Those pages hold many posts. You need the one post.
- Copying the wrong post in a thread. If the video is in a reply, open that reply, not the first post of the thread.
- Reposts and quotes. The video lives in the original post. Tap the video or the post's date to open it on its own page, then copy that link.
- A private account. The link is fine but the video isn't visible to the public. See can you download from private or protected accounts.
Then paste it
Paste the link into the box on the SaveNowX homepage, pick a quality and download. The full device-specific walkthroughs are here: iPhone and Android and PC and Mac. If it still fails with a good link, work through the troubleshooting guide.
Key facts
- Copy a link to a single post, not a profile or timeline.
- The format is
x.com/username/status/<number>;twitter.comlinks also work. - Open the original post if the video appears in a repost or quote.
