SaveNowX

Is SaveNowX safe?

Last updated November 6, 2026

SaveNowX is built so there is very little to be unsafe about: no account, no password, nothing to install to use the website. You shouldn’t have to take that on trust, though, so this page spells out what actually happens. The legal version is in the Privacy Policy and Terms.

What happens when you paste a link

  • Your browser sends the link to SaveNowX, which asks X for the public information about that post: the video file addresses and a thumbnail.
  • You pick a quality and the video goes from X’s servers to your device. Some downloads pass through SaveNowX’s servers on the way, and are discarded as soon as the transfer finishes.
  • Nothing is saved to a profile, because there are no accounts.

What SaveNowX records

  • Your IP address and the time of each request, kept briefly for rate limiting and basic request logs (counts, error types, response times).
  • Anonymous usage analytics through Google Analytics: page views and clicks such as which download quality was chosen. It’s there so we can see what’s working and what’s broken. In Europe, the UK and Switzerland it stays off until you accept the cookie banner, and you can change your mind any time from “Cookie settings” in the footer.
  • It does not keep the links you paste or the videos you download.

What the Chrome extension can access

The SaveNowX extension asks for one browser permission, activeTab, and runs on x.com and twitter.com to add a download button to video posts. It also runs a small script on savenowx.com so the site can tell the extension is installed. It doesn’t ask for access to your browsing history or to every website you visit. You can see what it requests on its Chrome Web Store listing, where other users’ ratings appear too.

What SaveNowX will never ask for

  • Your X username or password.
  • Payment details. It’s free.
  • An app or program to install before you can download.

If any site that looks like SaveNowX asks for one of these, it isn’t us.

How to spot an unsafe downloader

These warning signs apply to any video downloader, not just ours:

  • It asks you to log into X or enter your password.
  • It tells you to install a program or an “update” just to download a single video.
  • Buttons that open new tabs, fake “your device is infected” warnings, or surprise permission prompts.
  • It asks for notification permission before showing anything.

Limits worth knowing

  • SaveNowX only works with public posts and doesn’t get around private or protected accounts.
  • Downloading a video doesn’t give you the right to reuse it. See is it legal to download X videos.
  • SaveNowX isn’t affiliated with X.
