Extension Support

Most issues with the SaveNowX extension come down to one of a few things: the button not appearing, a download not starting, or an install step going sideways. The download button isn’t showing up on X

• Make sure you’re on an actual post with a video — the button only appears next to videos, not on the home timeline or profile pages themselves.
• Refresh the page. The extension watches for new posts as you scroll, but a hard refresh (Ctrl/Cmd + R) forces it to re-scan the page from scratch.
• Confirm the extension is enabled: open chrome://extensions and check that SaveNowX has its toggle switched on.
• If you loaded it manually (Load unpacked), make sure the extension folder wasn’t moved, renamed, or deleted after installing — Chrome needs it to stay in place.

I clicked download and nothing happened

• Give it a few seconds — resolving the video and starting the download can take a moment on longer or higher-resolution clips.
• Check whether your browser silently blocked the download. Look for a blocked-download icon in the address bar, or check your browser’s download settings.
• Try again after refreshing the post. Very recently posted videos can occasionally take a minute to become fully available.
• If it still fails, the same video usually works from savenowx.com directly — paste the post link into the box on the homepage as a fallback.

The download is slow or times out

Download speed depends on the video’s length and quality as well as your own connection — longer or higher-resolution videos take longer, and a very unstable connection can cause a download to time out partway through. Retrying usually resolves this.

Is the extension safe? What can it see?

The extension only requests the activeTab permission, plus access to run on x.com and twitter.com. It can’t read your other tabs, your browsing history, or any site outside X. It doesn’t collect analytics, doesn’t require an account, and doesn’t see anything you type — it only looks for videos on the page you’re currently viewing so it can add a download button next to them.

Does it work on Firefox or Safari?

Not yet. The current build is Chrome/Edge/Brave-only (Manifest V3), installed manually while it’s ahead of its Chrome Web Store listing. Firefox and Safari each need their own packaging, which isn’t ready yet. In the meantime, savenowx.com works in any browser — just paste the post link in.

I updated the extension and it stopped working

If you re-downloaded the .zip, make sure you unzipped the new version over (or in place of) the old folder, then click the refresh icon on the SaveNowX card at chrome://extensions. If a video still won’t detect after that, a hard refresh of the X tab usually fixes it — the content script needs to reload on the page.
