Save X (Twitter) Videos Free: Bookmarks vs. Downloading
Part of the complete guide to downloading X/Twitter videos.
"Saving" a video on X can mean two different things, and picking the wrong one is the usual reason people lose clips they wanted. A bookmark saves a link inside your X account. A download saves the video file on your device. If you want to keep the video itself, you want a download, and it's free.
Option 1: Bookmark it (saves a link)
On any post, tap the Share icon and choose Bookmark. Your saved posts are listed under Bookmarks in X's menu (the left sidebar on desktop).
Bookmarks are good for "I'll watch this later." Their limits:
- You need an X account, and you need to be signed in to see them.
- The video stays on X. If the author deletes the post or their account goes away, it vanishes from your bookmarks too.
- You can't use it offline or send it as a file.
Option 2: Download it (saves the file)
- Copy the link to the post. On mobile, tap Share → Copy link. On desktop, copy the address from the browser bar.
- Open savenowx.com and paste the link into the box.
- Click Get video, pick a quality, and download.
It's free, there's no sign-up, and no watermark is added. The file lands in your normal downloads location. If you can't find it afterwards, see where downloaded videos go on each device.
If you only want the sound, such as a song or an interview clip, the same page can give you an MP3 instead.
Which should you use?
| You want to... | Use |
|---|---|
| Come back to a post later, inside X | Bookmark |
| Keep the video even if the post is deleted | Download |
| Send the video in a chat or email | Download |
| Watch offline | Download |
| Save it without an X account | Download |
You can do both: bookmark it now, and download it when it matters.
One honest caution
Having a copy on your device doesn't mean you can reuse it however you like. The creator still owns the video, so ask before reposting. See is it legal to download X videos for what actually matters.
